G7 summit gets underway in Biarritz

Ruptly is live on Saturday, August 24, as the 45th G7 summit kicks off in the French city of Biarritz.

The summit will run from August 24 to August 26, and will see the participation of the leaders of the Group of Seven (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom and United States) as well as European Council President Donald Tusk.

The summit’s theme is the fight against inequalities, with the G7’s format being adjusted to include the participation of democracies with regional influence, African partners and representatives of civil society. The French G7 presidency will advance five goals in combating inequality: fighting inequality of opportunity, reducing environmental inequality, enhancing security and counter-terrorism, fighting inequality through digital development and fighting inequality through a renewed partnership with Africa.
