Third nationwide strike in Colombia hits Bogota

The death of 18-year-old protester Dilan Cruz, who was killed after being hit by a projectile fired by the police, has further enraged the protesters, bringing about new rounds of protests.

The anti-government demonstrations began last week following President Ivan Duque’s policies and pension reform announcements, amid a strong presence of state security forces on the streets. At least four people have been killed in the protests and a further 500 injured.

The protesters are demanding more funding for public education, an increase in wages and more job stability.
