Ukraine: 'I came to help the people of Donbass' - US DNR volunteer

March 04, 2015 at 21:21 GMT +00:00 · Published

A U.S. citizen fighting for the Vostok Battalion of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DNR/DPR) told of his motivation and battle experience in Donetsk, Wednesday.

Nicknamed 'Texas' because of his origin, he said that he came to Donbass to help the people defend themselves against the Ukrainian government. He added that he believes that the Ukraine crisis is a consequence of the 'influence and decisions of the US.'

"I've seen a lot of death and destruction. And I know that every person that's been killed, every house that's been burned, every bullet hole and every fence, every hungry dog, all the troubles of this world - it's because of the decisions and the influence of the United States," he said.

He also spoke about his experience in the battlefield, and said he came under fire almost on a daily basis and felt he was lucky to still be alive.
