Singapore: ASEAN organisers block overly-keen Russian delegation from entering meeting room

November 13, 2018 at 13:17 (GMT) · Published

Russia’s delegation to the 33rd ASEAN Summit in Singapore, including Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov, were physically blocked by organisers of event on Wednesday from entering a meeting room.

However, it looks like the incident was not down to the overzealousness of the staff or the overly-keen Russian delegation. It appears that in Singapore etiquette dictates that the Russian leader and host shake hands and have a photo together before a bi-lateral meeting. No one appeared to take offence from the misunderstanding.

The summit sees leaders from Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states as well as representatives from the region's major economies meet to discuss economic, trade, security, investment and development opportunities in South East Asia.
