USA: Bernie Sanders' supporters turn out for LA campaign rally

United States, Los Angeles, CA
March 24, 2019 at 04:59 GMT +00:00 · Published

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders held a campaign rally outside Los Angeles City Hall on Saturday, in front thousands of cheering supporters.

The long-serving independent senator for Vermont said his campaign was about "defeating [US President] Donald Trump" as well as "creating a system that works for all of us, not just the one per cent."

He argued that Trump sought to "divide the country up" and called on his administration to make Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report public, adding that "nobody including the president of the United States, especially this president, is above the law."

Sanders also outlined that his administration would "move aggressively" to end what he called "the epidemic of gun violence". He praised New Zealand's ban on assault weapons in the wake of the Christchurch mosque shootings. "That's a good idea, we should do that here," he told the crowd.

A total of 16 candidates are competing to challenge US President Donald Trump in the 2020 election.
