USA: Assange supporters stage protest in front of British Consulate in NYC

United States, New York City
May 03, 2019 at 03:06 GMT +00:00 · Published

Activists supporting WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange staged a rally in front of the British Consulate General in New York City on Thursday.

"100 percent accurate files that he exposed about illegally classified crimes that should never have been classified. They are hunting him down, they will torture him, they will silence him. This is atrocious. It's an outrage and the law's not working on his behalf," said Amanda Kissenger, one of the rally organisers.

"What they're doing is they're going after Julian Assange but it's also a message to every other journalist and publisher that if you upset the powerful, you come out with unassailable truth, that you will be an object of their attack and wrath," stated protester David Salsburg, adding that "we want to free Julian Assange and in no way have him extradited to the United States for the crime of telling us the truth."

The rally took place as Julian Assange was sentenced to 50 weeks in prison by a court in London on Wednesday for violating bail conditions.
