USA: Buttigieg tells Americans to 'change the channel' on Trump 'horror show'

United States, Las Vegas

The openly gay Mayor of South Bend, Indiana and Democratic presidential candidate, Pete Buttigieg criticised the current administration in Washington when he spoke at Human Rights Campaign's 14th Annual Gala at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday.

The 37-year-old told the gala audience that the "horror show in Washington is mesmerising. It is the nature of grotesque things that you can't look away," and that "faced with that show, we have to remember that in 2020 we get the chance to change the channel."

Referring to the infamous wall along the southern border proposed by President Donald Trump, Buttigieg said "what every gay person has in common with every excluded person of any kind, is knowing what it's like to see a wall between you and the rest of the world and wonder what it's like on the other side."

Buttigieg went on to say "I am not just like you, no two of us are alike. But each of us has a story that can either separate us, or connect us to those around us. Yes, I am gay, and I am the son of an immigrant and an army man."
