China: Not just pandas! Largest overseas koala population welcomes 6th gen cubMay 20, 2019 at 11:14 (GMT) · Published
China's Chimelong Safari Park in Guangzhou is home to the largest population of Koalas outside of their native Australia, with a group of 60 of the tiny bears spanning six generations. The youngest cub, Happy, born last October, came out of its mothers pouch last week and started greeting tourists.
The large family, shown in footage filmed on Monday, started from a family of just six koalas introduced into the park in 2006.
"In the same year, Tao Tao gave birth to twin koalas, which are the only twin koalas in the world," said zookeeper Zhihui Wang.
Uki the 17-year-old family elder and one of the six original Chimelong Safari Park koalas, is 100 in human years, given koalas' usual life-span of 12 to 13 years.
