Slovakia: Finland hockey fans celebrate side's victory over Russia

Fans of the Finnish national ice hockey team celebrated in Bratislava on Saturday after their side advanced to the final of the IIHF World Championship by beating Russia 1-0 in the Slovak capital.

Russia, considered pre-tournament favourites by many, had won eight straight games and scored 40 goals but were unable to breach Finland's defence.

Fans of Russia were in sombre mood following their team's defeat at the Ondrej Nepela Arena in Bratislava. "They kind of broke our hockey players into pieces. Our team did not show the level of performance they did in the quarter-final or in the group matches," said Sergei, a fan.

Finland will play against the winner of the Canada v. Czech Republic match in the final. Russia will compete for third place. Both games will take place on Sunday.
