Russia: We’re best at protecting against Russian hackers - Kaspersky *EXCLUSIVE* *PARTNER CONTENT*

Russian Federation, Saint Petersburg

Head of Kaspersky Lab Eugene Kaspersky talked about media coverage of “so-called Russian hackers,” saying that as a Russian company, Kaspersky is better than its competitors at providing protection against Russian hackers. He was speaking on the sidelines of the Saint Petersburg Economic Forum on Thursday.

“When I speak about so-called Russian hackers all the time I say that we have benefits from all this media pressure because we live in Russia and we are first to see Russian hackers. So, our technologies, our products they protect from Russian hackers much better than our competitors,” he said.

Talking about a recent EU commission report that concluded that it is had no evidence of “potential issues related to the use of Kaspersky Lab products” in spying, Kaspersky said that it did not affect the way the company operates and made him realise that the firm has “many friends in different countries, in different regions.”

The European Parliament passed a resolution that branded the company’s software as being “malicious” in June 2018.

The annual St. Petersburg International Economic Forum runs from Wednesday until Saturday.

The forum brings together the heads of international organisations, well-known public figures, leading academics, experts and the media.

SOT, Eugene Kaspersky, Head of Kaspersky Lab: “The story [the European Commission investigation about cyber espionage] that had happened it did not actually violate the company’s behaviour. We were the best in detecting any kind of malware and providing protection for all of our customers. We did it, we are doing that and we will do it. So, it does not affect company’s behaviour. And at the end of all of these stories we recognise that we have many friends in different countries, in different regions.” *NO CUTAWAYS AT SOURCE*

SOT, Eugene Kaspersky, Head of Kaspersky Lab: “It is a very logical transformation of our business. In the past we had just a minor problem with cyber security in terms of cybercrime on individuals. So, we had consumer products then we had more and more problems with enterprise segment, so, we were shifting, expanding to enterprise segment. Now it is about industrial sector especially critical infrastructure… the most important. So, now we are a company which provide cyber security for any kinds of businesses from individual devices to the critical infrastructure. And, of course, the next logical step is to assist governments because there are many governments, all of them recognise the cyber security as one of the top, top, top issues, so, they pay a lot of attention to this. So, we are able and we want to assist governments with our knowledge, experience, technologies.” *NO CUTAWAYS AT SOURCE*

SOT, Eugene Kaspersky, Head of Kaspersky Lab: “Mostly people think about computer security or smartphone security but it is not the end of the story. It is IoT, all of kinds of devices around us. Unfortunately, many of them are vulnerable. What about transportation security, the healthcare security because, unfortunately, all of that is vulnerable, based on cyber is vulnerable. And, unfortunately, the cyber criminals, bad guys, from time to time they are able to hack even critical things. So, we still have a lot of work to do on the awareness.” *NO CUTAWAYS AT SOURCE*
