UK: Nurmagomedov and Poirier talk UFC 242 in London press conference

June 12, 2019 at 16:36 (GMT) · Published

UFC lightweight world champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and his opponent in the upcoming UFC 242 event in Abu Dhabi, interim lightweight titleholder Dustin Poirier, hold joint press conference in London on Wednesday.

Dagestan native Nurmagomedov said the most "most dangerous thing" about his American rival is his experience.

"It's going to be very big and very good show for everybody," the champion said, adding that the fight will be different this time because his father will be able to be at his son's corner for the first time in the UFC. The elder Nurmagomedov has been unable to attend Khabib's UFC fights in the United States due to visa issues.

Interim champion Poirier on his part said that he is "just excited for the opportunity, excited to show the world what I am capable of."

"You got two guys on the pound-for-pound list, one of them is undefeated, both of them are champions. Two champions are going in, one champion is coming out," the American added.

UFC 242 is set to take place at The Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi on September 7.

The lightweight title fight will be the first time in the octagon Nurmagomedov since October, after receiving a nine-month suspension following a brawl against Conor McGregor and his staff at the end of their fight at UFC 229 in Las Vegas.
