The fire on one of the oil tankers involved in a suspected attack in the Gulf of Oman was reportedly fully extinguished on Thursday, as confirmed by Director General of Hormozgan Province Ports and Maritime Organization, Allah-Morad Afifipour, in Tehran.
"Based on the last news that we have and what forces at the location reported, the fire has been put out in the engine room of the tanker and we have been evaluating to transfer the crew members of the tanker to their tanker (main tanker)," he added.
The two ships, one carrying oil and the other a cargo of chemicals, were reportedly attacked in the Strait of Hormuz earlier on Thursday.
Following the incident, for which no cause has been determined so far, both Iran and the US claimed they were assisting the evacuated crew members.
