Russian ambassador to the US Anatoli Antonov commented on the "joint history" between the United States and Russia while meeting with Alaskan Lieutenant Governor Kevin Meyer in Juneau on Tuesday.
"About the historical relations between Alaska and Russia, between the United States and Russia, and also, you will see that I have to say about our relations during the Second World War, I remember how much Alaska did to assist Russia, and to assist the United States to be a winner in the Second World War," the Russian diplomat said.
Antonov went on to say that "I am very much satisfied, when I visit, for example, the Pentagon, they support my ideas to keep in mind, not to forget, our joint history."
The two politicians exchanged gifts, and Meyer spoke of his visit to the Soviet Union in 1987 with his wife, and Russia in 2001 when they adopted their daughter Valentina.
