June 19, 2019 at 14:48 (GMT) · Published

A visibly hungry and seemingly ill polar bear was seen wandering in the outskirts of the Siberian city Norilsk hundreds of kilometres away from its normal habitat, video released on Wednesday shows.

In the footage, the polar bear can be seen looking lost in an industrial estate outside of Norilsk, wandering around the terrain, supposedly looking for food.

According to TASS news agency, the chief of the local hunting department Anatoly Nikolaichuk said that the polar bear is the first to be seen in Norilsk for more than 40 years.

The bear was reportedly first spotted on Sunday by a group of teenagers who posted a video of it on Instagram.

Wildlife experts from Krasnoyarsk are due to arrive in Norilsk later on Wednesday to examine the bear and decide what to do with the animal.
