UK: 'Front-runners' England take on 'confident' Australia in second CWC semi-final

United Kingdom, Birmingham
July 10, 2019 at 23:27 GMT +00:00 · Published

England and Australian team held a training session at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Wednesday ahead of their semi-final clash in the ICC 2019 Cricket World Cup.

Both team captains then spoke at a press conference, where Australia's Aaron Finch pointed out that the Baggy Greens had won four out of the last five World Cups. "Australia have had a very rich history in World Cups. I mean, winning four of the last five, it's been a great achievement."

He admitted that England "have been probably the front-runners in world cricket over the last four years" but in the end "whoever holds their nerve, whoever takes them half chances, whoever starts off the game really well in the first ten overs, whether it is with bat or ball, it is going to be so important for either side."

England captain, Eoin Morgan on the other hand talked about riding the winning momentum after a patchy start to the tournament saying that "I think the fact that throughout the group stages for a while getting through to this stage looked unlikely, or was called into question. I think that makes it more exciting for us."

He also talked about the "home advantage" that his side has saying that "the wicket tends to suit us but also the support as well."

Hosts England take on defending champions Australia at Edgbaston on Thursday.
