Millions of commuters were affected by a taxi drivers strike which saw clashes between the police and protesters in Bogota on Wednesday, as the industry expressed frustration at competition from ride-sharing apps like Uber and Cabify.
According to information from the Colombian national police in Bogota, 1,000 taxi drivers came out to protest in five planned marches blocking traffic and leading to major disruptions throughout the capital.
Footage from the incident shows clashes between the striking drivers and security forces, which included police in riot gear and personnel from the Mobile Anti-Riot Squadron (ESMAD).
Reportedly 16 taxis were damaged and 8 taxi drivers arrested before before the roads were cleared for traffic.
