USA: Trump says ‘hate has no place in our country’ after two mass shootings

US President Donald Trump expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the deadly shootings that took place in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio, over the weekend, while also expressing his gratitude for the first responders. Trump spoke in Bedminster, New Jersey on Sunday.

"Hate has no place in our country. And we're going to take care of it," Trump said while speaking to the press.

"On behalf of our first lady and myself, condolences to all. We have to get it stopped. This has been going on for years. For years and years in our country. We have to get it stopped," said Trump.

"I just want to also thank the law enforcement in both places, the job they've done is incredible. I also want to congratulate them, I mean nobody could have done what they've done. This could have been as bad as it was, it could have been so much worse. I just have to thank them," he added.

On Saturday, 20 people were killed and more than two dozen injured, after a gunman opened fire at a Walmart store inside the Cielo Vista Mall, the largest shopping centre in El Paso, Texas.

A 21-year-old suspect has been arrested and named by police as Dallas-resident Patrick Crusius.

In the early hours on Sunday morning, only hours after Saturday's shooting in El Paso, another mass shooting occurred where a gunman opened fire near the entrance of a bar in downtown Dayton, Ohio, leaving 10 killed and 27 others injured.

The gunman was killed by police within a minute of the shots being fired, and was identified as 24-year-old Connor Betts.
