USA: 'The blood lies on the hands of President Trump' - Hispanic community leader

National President of League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Domingo Garcia blamed the rhetoric of US President Donald Trump for the mass shooting that claimed the lives of 20 people in El Paso on Saturday, while speaking among other community leaders in El Paso, Texas, on Sunday.

"That motivation, that inspiration comes from the White House. This lies squarely, on the hands, and the blood lies on the hands of President Trump, and the administration. The fact of the matter is, when you say go back to where you came from, we're going to build a wall, this is a country thats being infested by vermin, they are all rapists or murderers, you are creating a toxic atmosphere, politically that inspires people that are not mentally stable to come and do the type of hideous crimes that we saw in El Paso yesterday," Garcia said.

Garcia was speaking to other community leaders and demonstrators outside of the MacArthur Elementary School, where authorities have set up a reunification centre to provide information to family members of victims.

One such family member, Raul Flores, said he drove for "24 hours straight" after hearing the news of the shooting. Flores explained that his parents were inside the Walmart during shooting.

"We have no news yet. We know they were there. They don't answer their phone. We're just hoping that, you know, maybe they are in the hospital and they haven't identified them yet...My biggest fear is that, you know, that it was fatal. My hope is that it wasn't," Flores said.

Visibly distraught, Flores added "I love them very much, and I want them home."

On Saturday, 20 people were killed and more than two dozen injured, after a gunman opened fire at a Walmart store inside the Cielo Vista Mall, the largest shopping centre in El Paso, Texas.

A 21-year-old suspect has been arrested and named by police as Dallas-resident Patrick Crusius.

In the early hours on Sunday morning, only hours after Saturday's shooting in El Paso, another mass shooting occurred where a gunman opened fire near the entrance of a bar in downtown Dayton, Ohio, leaving 10 killed and 27 others injured.

The gunman was killed by police within a minute of the shots being fired, and was identified as 24-year-old Connor Betts.
