Hong Kong: Flights resume after violent clashes at the airport

Hong Kong, Special Administrative Region of China, Hong Kong
August 14, 2019 at 11:50 GMT +00:00 · Published

Flights largely resumed in the Hong Kong International airport on Wednesday after violent clashes between police and anti-government protesters on Tuesday night. Hundreds of passengers were stranded as demonstrators brought the arrivals’ terminal to a standstill in the past two days.

"No matter if you are a tourist or whatever, I have to apologise to you all for any inconvenience caused yesterday. We really didn't want this to happen," said Lee, one of the protesters remaining in the airport.

The management obtained a High Court ruling restricting sit-in protests in the airport and allowed only passengers with tickets to enter the departure area.

"I think after seeing last night. I think right now, I hope everyone can just have some peace and not be so violent," said Alvin, one of the affected passengers.

Protests in the airport are part of anti-government demonstrations that rocked Hong Kong for more than ten weeks.
