Hong Kong: Tens of thousands attend anti-government rally in Victoria Park

Tens of thousands of people flooded Victoria Park in Hong Kong on Sunday for the 11th consecutive weekend of anti-government protests.

"Throughout the past two months, we have repeated for thousands of times our five demands and I think it's clear and loud enough. It depends if the government is willing to listen or not, but apparently they do not, so it's helpless. I don't know what else can we do to solve the situation," said one of the protesters, adding that both life and love can be sacrificed for freedom.

The rally at Victoria Park was the only demonstration allowed by police, but protesters flooded nearby streets and marched through central Hong Kong towards the government headquarters.

Organisers claimed that the number of demonstrators reached 1.7 million.

Protests have been taking place in Hong Kong since the end of March against a proposed law amendment which could allow sending Hong Kong to mainland China for trials. The demonstrations then grew into a wider movement calling for reforms and condemning government and police actions.
