Some 22,000 football fans welcomed them at the stadium shortly before the Ural-Krilya Sovetov clash in the Russian Premier League.

Yekaterinburg is a home city for both captain Yusupov and the first officer Murzin from the heroic A321 crew.

The Ural Airlines plane was en route to Simferopol from Moscow with 226 passengers and a crew of seven on-board when its engines malfunctioned due to a flock of birds being ingested by the turbines, according to Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency.

All passengers and seven crew members survived the rough landing after reaching about 200 meters height. 24 people were injured, according to Russia's Ministry of Health.
