To Catch A Predator - UV stamp marks sexual abusers in Japan

September 04, 2019 at 10:08 GMT +00:00 · Published

A Japanese stationery manufacturer in Nagoya has released an anti-groping UV stamp which leaves a mark visible under a UV black light, designed to deter sexual harassment and groping in public spaces and to help identify perpetrators, footage released on Wednesday shows.

"In Japan, when people get into a situation of being molested, many of them can't say anything against the gropers, so we are hoping that the stamp can be used for putting a [UV] mark onto the gropers," said Hirofumi Mukai who acts as the spokesperson of Shachihata seal-maker.

The UV mark left by the stamp can only be visible under an ultraviolet black light, which can then be used to identify a perpetrator, if the stamp is used on their body or clothes.

The company has released 500 UV stamps for sale with a retail price of JPY ¥2,700 (€23 / $25.42).
