UK: Thousands march in Perth in support of Scottish independence

United Kingdom, Perth
September 07, 2019 at 17:43 GMT +00:00 · Published

Thousands of protesters descended on Perth on Saturday, in support of Scottish independence.

Protesters were carrying the Royal Banner of Scotland and Scottish flags, and were holding signs reading "It's time for independence" and "Our voice counts, just not in Westminster."

One of the pro-independence supporters, Margaret Welsh, said "well, we like to sort out our own affairs and we think we'd make a better fist of it than they are in London."

Tom Pate, another protester, shared his frustration: "we never get the governments we want when we vote in Scotland. We always get the governments that England wants and of course England is voting for extreme right-wing governments just now and you know we just have to get away from all that."

The rally, organised by the campaign group All Under One Banner (AUOB), left from Seven Acres Park, before proceeding towards North Inch, through Dunkeld Road and High Street.
