USA: Democratic candidates speak at New Hampshire convention

United States, Manchester
September 07, 2019 at 23:09 GMT +00:00 · Published

Nineteen democratic presidential candidates, including Senator Bernie Sanders and former Vice-President Joe Biden, spoke at the New Hampshire Democratic Party Convention at the SNHU Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire, on Saturday.

Supporters of the White House hopefuls were present to cheer for their candidates.

Each presidential contender had around ten minutes on stage, during which they touched on various topics.

Biden took aim at Wall Street, by stating that they "did not build this country," but that the middle class did, which was itself built by unions.

South Bend Mayor and presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg criticised the current health care coverage by sharing the story of a 12-year-old girl who was worried about her parents losing their coverage. "She's 12. And this is what she is thinking about, and the only fair answer to kids like that is that they shouldn't be dealing with this at all," said Buttigieg.

Sanders called for an immediate legislation on gun safety: "Congress must do what the American people want, not what the NRA wants."
