Robot Doctor performs health checks on toddlers in Suzhou

China, Suzhou
September 10, 2019 at 08:45 GMT +00:00 · Published

A new robotic doctor called the Walklake has been introduced to kindergartens across China to perform morning health checks on students; footage filmed in a school in Suzhou on Tuesday shows the Robo-Doc in action.

The robot can perform a morning health check on students in just three seconds by taking scans of their hands, mouth, teeth and eyes, as well as taking the child's temperature. If any abnormalities are detected, a warning is displayed on screen.

"We saw the kindergarten started using the robot for the morning health check last year. Before that, my child didn't like the morning health check. When the robot was there, the kids were curious about something new and they like it," a parent, Yi Suzhen said.

The robot has already been introduced into over 6,000 kindergartens across China and is already proving effective.

SOT, Ms Hongmei, Spokesperson for Walklake (Mandarin): "The kids need to put their hands in the scanning area, bend their knees a bit, open their mouth and put their face in front of the camera. When they hear the sound 'Di', the results of the health check will be on the screen. It will tell you if the kids have any symptoms."

SOT, Lu Biyu, Head of the kindergarten (Mandarin): "Since we have had the robot, it saves time for the morning health check. Now, it takes three seconds for the morning health check and we can check two children at the same time. It decreases the time for the kids and the parents, as well as the workload for doctors."
