State of Palestine: Bethlehem residents react to Netanyahu's annexation promise

Residents of Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank commented on Wednesday on the pledge by Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu to annex the Jordan Valley.

"Israel initially annexed Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel. There were no Arab or local responses, and then the second step was the Golan and today the Jordan Valley. I think Jordan will not react as well," said one local resident.

Netanyahu said on Tuesday that he would annex Jordan Valley and the north of the Dead Sea if he is re-elected in a vote next week.

"At the local Palestinian level, everyone knows that we are restricted here and there is nothing we can do. On the international level, we saw the move of the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and nothing happened and nothing new will happen. Just some sounds will be made and things will go as usual after that," said another resident.

The Jordan Valley and the northern Dead Sea - which are currently under Israeli occupation - amount to nearly 30 percent of West Bank.
