China is studying the prices of the US agricultural products, said spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, Gao Feng, during a press conference in Beijing on Thursday.

The spokesperson also added that China released a tariff exemptions list that includes 16 types of products from the US.

"Chinese companies have started inquiring the prices of agricultural products, including soybeans and pork, from the US. I hope the two sides would move in the same direction, take practical actions and provide a sound environment for the trade negotiation," stressed the spokesperson.

The tariff exemptions will be in effect for one year, from September 17, 2019 until September 16, 2020.

The spokesperson also welcomed the US's "goodwill" to move the planned increase of extra five percent tariff on $250 billion (€228 billion) of Chinese goods from October 1 to October 15.

SOT, Gao Feng, Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesperson (Mandarin): "The first tariff exemption list released from China this time includes 16 types of products. There are three main aspects for auditing standard of the exemption list. Firstly, it faces difficulties to seek the alternative products. Secondly, adding tariffs causes the economic damage on the entities of application. Thirdly, adding tariff brings the negative effects to the relevant industry structure or damage the society. For the next step, the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council will continuously work on exempting tariffs on US products, based on the application from Chinese companies. It will subsequently release the exemption lists."
