Bahamas: UN's Guterres surveys devastation in the wake of Hurricane Dorian

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres toured the Abaco islands in the Bahamas on Saturday, two weeks after Hurricane Dorian ravaged part of the islands.

Guterres expressed gratitude to humanitarian workers on the site, saying, "I deeply feel enormous gratitude for what you are doing, and you can be sure that this generosity that you are showing, this effort that you are making is worth [it]."

Hurricane Dorian, a category 5 hurricane with sustained winds over 295 km/h (185 mph), made landfall in the Bahamas on September 1 and caused significant damage. At least 50 people were killed and 1,300 more remain unaccounted for following the hurricane.

On Saturday, Tropical Storm Humberto brought heavy rain and strong winds to the Bahamas. Humberto is expected to strengthen into a hurricane by Sunday night; however, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) forecasts that the storm will move away from the Bahamas and the US coastline.
