Israel: Arab residents comment on upcoming Knesset elections

Israel, Tayibe
September 16, 2019 at 17:51 GMT +00:00 · Published

Residents of Tayibe, an Arab-majority city in central Israel, expressed their opinion on the upcoming Israeli general elections on Monday.

"I believe our participation in the elections will be high tomorrow and many Arabs will go to the polls to vote," Imad Jabara, an Arab resident of Tayibe said. He added: "The votes of the Arabs will reduce the chances of [Netanyahu] being reelected."

"We are in need of a strong force to change the status quo. We continuously face policies of racist discrimination which includes the destruction of houses, the division of Al-Aqsa mosque and racism against the Arabic community, and that must change, and therefore we need a force of more than 15 members who would represent us in the next Knesset," said another Arab local Ayman Kharroub.

Another Arab resident, Abdulhakeem, criticized Arabs in Knesset for being politically amateur and "nervous" adding though: "I do not build hopes on the Arab candidates, but as an Arab in Israel, I will vote and will support Arab candidates in Israel."

Israel will hold snap elections on Tuesday, as Netanyahu was unable to form a coalition after the vote in April. His pledge to annex parts of West Bank if reelected sparked international condemnation.
