Germany: Activists condemn 5G tech ahead of parliament debate in Berlin

Germany, Berlin
September 22, 2019 at 16:14 GMT +00:00 · Published

Environmentalists protested in front of the seat of the German parliament, the Reichstag building, in Berlin on Sunday, against the introduction of 5G network technology in the country, ahead of a scheduled parliamentary discussion on Monday.

The protesters exhibited numerous banners and placards denouncing the technology, warning against the potential dangers that they say it may represent to the environment.

Eduard Messmer, one of the protesters, said, "We estimate that 5G, in this expansion stage as the federal government stipulates, namely an exhaustive expansion, that these 5G technologies will take over from the CO2 as the number one climate killer."

There is no scientific evidence to indicate that 5G technologies will have any negative impact on climate change or the environment. There is also no evidence to indicate that the new technology will be any less harmless to humans than current telecommunications technologies, although some scientists and scientific bodies have called for more research into the possible effects.
