UN: 'US exercises new form of terrorism using banks instead of bombs'- Venezuelan vice-president

United Nations
September 27, 2019 at 22:05 GMT +00:00 · Published

Vice President Delcy Rodriguez said that the US was prosecuting a "new type of terror or state terrorism that no longer uses bombs, but banks and insurance companies" during her speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Friday in New York.

Rodríguez added that "the existence of these measures shows a collapse of the international legal order" and that "Venezuela has become the best perverse experiment against multilateralism".

She cited more than 350 unilateral coercive measures against Venezuelan betwen 2015 and the present, estimating to have cost $130 billion up to 2018.

Rodriguez also denounced the approval of the "invalid and obsolete International Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance (TIAR)," which has been used to "justify an armed intervention in Venezuela led by the United States. She pointed out that "of all the existing mechanisms in TIAR, all but one have already been applied to Venezuela: armed intervention".

Regarding Colombia's role in the "aggressions" against Venezuela, she presented "precise and concise coordinates of the existence of camps where terrorists are being trained to attack Venezuela" in the northwestern regions of Santa Marta, Riohacha and Maicao.

The vice-president also mentioned the president of the Venezuelan National Assembly and showed the photograph in which he appears with a "leading member of the paramilitary organisation 'Los Rastrojos'".
