UN: US ban on Raul Castro is 'vote-catching crumb' – FM Rodriguez at UNGA

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez slammed the United States for barring former President Raul Castro from entering the country this Saturday, during a speech at the United Nations General Assembly in New York City.

“Just a few months ago the United States has started to implement, criminal, non-conventional measures to prevent fuel shipments from arriving to our country" which has forced us "to adopt temporary emergency measures which are only possible in an organised country with a people united in solidarity," he added.

The foreign minister also condemned the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government against Cuba as the "main obstacle to our country's economic development."

"This is an action that is void of any practical effect, aimed at offending Cuba's dignity and the feelings of our people" Bruno Rodriguez said, adding that "it is a vote-catching crumb being tossed to the Cuban-American extreme right."

This intervention comes after Washington's refusal to issue visas to some members of the Cuban delegation to attend the UN General Assembly and after months of pressure from Washington on the Cuban government by tightening punitive measures.
