Austria: OVP supporters celebrate major exit poll lead in snap elections

Supporters of the Austrian People's party (OVP) celebrated landslide exit poll results in the snap election at the OVP headquarters in Vienna on Sunday.

Former Chancellor Sebastian Kurz and his OVP party are predicted by exit polls to be the clear winners in the election, slated to take home 37.1 percent of the vote, which could result in the OVP's most successful election outcome since 2002.

The Centre-left Social Democratic party (SPO) is slated to receive 21.8 percent of the vote, with the Green party receiving 14 percent and the far-right Freedom Party of Austria (FPO) predicted to receive 16 percent.

Austria's snap elections were called after the fall of the coalition between the OVP and the Freedom Party of Austria (FPO) collapsed earlier this year in the wake of the 'Ibiza Affair.'
