UK: Brexit 'not a matter of if - it's a matter of days' – Javid tells Tory conference
The UK's Chancellor of the Exchequer Sajid Javid reiterated the government’s position that the UK would leave the European Union on October 31 "deal, or no deal" in a speech at the annual Conservative Party conference in Manchester on Monday.
"We are leaving the European Union. It's not a matter of if - it's a matter of days. 31 days - deal, or no deal," he said. "We understand that preparing to leave without a deal is not only the responsible thing to do, but also the best way of leaving with a deal."
Javid also announced that, in preparation for a potential no deal Brexit, he had "agreed to guarantee all £4.3 billion of EU-directed funding that [UK organisations] would have been expecting."
