Spain: Valencia CF fans demand resignation of Singaporean owner

Spain, Valencia
October 05, 2019 at 23:13 GMT +00:00 · Published

Hundreds of Valencia CF fans flooded Valencia's streets on Saturday to protest against club owner Peter Lim's and the club president Anil Murthy's management of the team.

"Four months ago we were the envy of Spain, we had won the Copa del Rey, and things were being done well. From this summer everything has been truncated, the team has gone from bad to worse and the decisions that have been made by the leaders have been disastrous," said a Valencia CF fan.

People were chanting "Chinese son of a bitch!" referring to Chinese-Singaporean Peter Lim and holding banners reading "Lim go home."

The atmosphere was tense due to the latest decisions of both Lim and Murthy, especially the sacking of former coach Marcelino Garcia Toral.

Lim purchased Valencia CF back in 2014 and currently controls 70 percent of club shares. He appointed Marcelino's assistant Albert Celades as the new head coach following the Spaniard's dismissal.

He also owns 40 percent of English League Two side Salford City.
