Argentina: Extinction Rebellion activists flood Bayer-Monsanto office in Buenos Aires
Extinction Rebellion (XR) activists gathered in Buenos Aires on Monday, joining a day of worldwide demonstrations demanding action on climate change and other environmental issues.
Footage shows XR demonstrators targeting the Buenos Aires office of multinational corporation Bayer-Monsanto over its role in the agrochemical and crop science industry. Clad in red and white, activists entered the company’s lobby, performing a protest action piece while holding images of people allegedly affected by the use of agrochemicals.
"[We are] in front of the offices of Monsanto-Bayer, which is the main company behind the agro-industrial model present in Argentina and the region. It deforests billions of hectares and is poisoning the population through the application of agrochemicals on rural populations," said Rodrigo Castro, an activist with Extinction Rebellion.
XR protesters also rallied in the Argentine capital’s San Martin Square, unfurling a large banner from the city’s iconic Monumental Tower.
The ’Extinction Rebellion' movement staged similar protests across the globe on Monday, including in London, Berlin, Amsterdam and Sydney.
