Ecuador: Moreno moves government out of capital and blames Maduro and Correa for unrest

Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno said his government would move from the capital Quito to Guayaquil due to mass demonstrations, which he blamed on ex-president Rafael Correa and his Venezuelan ally Nicolas Maduro during a speech from Guayaquil on Monday.

“I have moved to the city of Guayaquil, and I have brought the government to this beloved city, according to the constitutional powers that I have,” was what the Ecuadorian leader had to say about the change in seat of government.

Moreno said "the satrap that is Maduro has activated, along with Correa, his destabilisation plan", accusing them of being "those who are behind this attempted coup and are using and manipulating some indigenous sectors, taking advantage of their mobilisation to loot and destroy."

Ecuador has experience five days of violent unrest over economic measures introduced by President Lenin Moreno. Principally, it proposes the elimination of the fuel subsidies, which have been in place since the 1970s.
