Hundreds of people were displaced as Afghan forces continued their military offensive against Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) in the western province of Nangarhar.

Footage filmed in Nangarhar's Surkh-Rod district on October 7 shows displaced local residents living in temporary tents.

"Government forces started the operation [against IS] in our area, several of our relatives were wounded due to shelling which hit their houses, then we left the area, for a long time we are living here…we want peace in Afghanistan not war," said Naqeebullah, a local resident.

Separate footage filmed on October 8 in Achin District shows Afghan soldiers carrying out their operation with a number of homes reportedly destroyed in the fighting.

Afghan security forces Commander Qand Agha Safi said that IS fighters suffered losses during the offensive as 25 villages were cleared of militants. He added that over 300 mines left by IS forces were also safely disposed.

"There were two clinics we captured which belonged to IS, then we destroyed them, yesterday our forces captured an IS weapons depot and we seized several weapons," he added.

Noor Adin, a local of the area where the operation is currently underway, wanted the government to 'create a permanent security post here' as residents were still afraid.

"There are around 3,000 houses, you can see, destroyed here due to shelling," he added.
