USA: Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout says he’s ‘a political prisoner’ *EXCLUSIVE* *PARTNER CONTENT*

Russian businessman and arms dealer Viktor Bout, who is currently serving a 25-year jail sentence in the US, said his refusal to find the Americans dirt on Russian leader Vladimir Putin led to his conviction, speaking to RT in an exclusive phone interview from his prison on Tuesday.

Bout said his family was offered permanent residency in the US for info on Putin and his “corrupt regime”.

“I am here [because of] my nationality. I denied to cooperate with their side,” he said, adding that he considered himself "100 percent a political prisoner."

The arms dealer called his 2008 arrest in Thailand and the extradition to the United States two years later as “modern piracy” and “kidnapping for ransom.”

Discussing possible negotiations about his case between the US and Russian authorities, Bout said that he would just need to be patient and wait.

The man widely known as the 'Merchant of Death' is serving a 25-year prison term in the US after being convicted of illegally selling weapons to the FARC in 2011.
