Germany, Zeitz
October 09, 2019 at 23:11 GMT +00:00 · Published

German police blocked cordoned off a section of the B91 highway near the town of Zeitz, roughly 60km south of Halle, after the alleged gunman of the Halle Synagogue shooting was detained there hours earlier on Wednesday. According to reports, the suspect was involved in a car accident there and was subsequently apprehended by police.

Footage shows police cars on the highway and a truck that was reportedly involved in the incident. A taxi with the backdoor open is also seen.

German media reported that the suspect took a taxi and fled on the B91 highway heading south, when he was rammed by a truck and taken into custody by the police.

"I heard about that at lunch, and then on the street here there was police cars driving by, and then later my mother called to me saying I should look out the window, and then I saw there were many police cars, also Special Deployment Commando (SEK) vehicles, and then one could see the vehicle of the man, around which many of the authorities had gathered, and then some helicopters were flying around," said Lucas Topf, a witness of the alleged suspect being detained.

Earlier on Wednesday, two people were killed after a man opened fire near a synagogue in the city of Halle where the Jewish community was observing the holiday of Yom Kippur.
