USA: Biden publicly endorses Trump impeachment for the first time

United States, Manchester
October 10, 2019 at 00:46 GMT +00:00 · Published

For the first time, former US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden publicly called for the impeachment of US President Donald Trump, while speaking at a rally in Manchester, New Hampshire, on Wednesday.

"In the full view of the American people, Donald Trump has violated his oath of office, betrayed the nation, and committed impeachable acts. To preserve our Constitution, our democracy, and our basic integrity, I believe he should be impeached," said Biden.

He also quoted Trump calling on China to initiate investigations on Biden and his son, Hunter, accusing Trump of turning to foreign interference to affect elections in the United States.

Touching on Trump's accusations against him for corruption, Biden claimed innocence.

"There is not a single bit of truth in his charges and attacks against me. None. Zero. Every independent news organization has reviewed his charges at length and found them to be flat out lies."

Trump is alleged to have asked Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to find damaging information on the business dealings of Hunter Biden, the son of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden during a phone call. Hunter Biden was as a board member at a Ukrainian gas company between 2014 and 2019.

There is no public evidence that Hunter Biden was ever under investigation by the Ukrainian government, or of wrongdoing by either Joe Biden or his son.

The Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi announced an official impeachment inquiry into Trump over the allegations on September 24.

On October 3 Trump publicly called on China and Ukraine to investigate the Bidens, although he maintained that he did not pressure Zelenskiy to do so during their earlier phone call.
