Hong Kong: 'I can't stand Hong Kong like this' - Woman condemns protesters after being attacked

Anti-government protests in Hong Kong took an ugly turn on Sunday when protesters assaulted a woman after she argued with them.

Drowned in a sea of umbrellas, the woman is dragged by her hair, beaten and sprayed on her face with what appeared to be black paint. "I can't breathe. You see, this is a so-called democracy and freedom. This is the democracy that Hongkongers want," said the woman as she was walking away.

She noted that she had been living in Hong Kong "for 32 years," adding, "I can't stand Hong Kong like this. I watched TV and could not stand it anymore. I am suffering." She also expressed her frustration that she could not drive in the city any more "but can only walk on the blocked road and be splashed with a corrosive liquid."

Since March, Hong Kong has been rocked by demonstrations sparked by a planned, but now-withdrawn extradition bill. The rallies have evolved into a movement with wider grievances against the Hong Kong administration.
