Chile: Anti-govt. protesters face off with police in 7th day of unrest *EXPLICIT*

Thousands of people took to the streets of Santiago on Thursday as mass anti-government protests entered its 7th day, where they were met by riot police deploying water cannons and tear gas to disperse them.

"It is very important to understand that the struggle we are leading here is of the people, the people and our Araucanian heritage, so it is good to rescue this and an instrument like this can motivate people," said a protester who was playing the wind instrument Trutruca, an instrument mainly played by the indigenous group Mapuche, to encourage protesters in the standoff with police.

Protesters can be seen responding to police by throwing objects at them and their armoured vehicles, as well as seeking protection behind sheet metal. The protest was also joined by a group of nude sex workers.

The current wave of demonstrations, which is considered to be the worst in decades, was sparked by a now-suspended metro fare hike. The demonstrations have since evolved into a movement with wider grievances aimed at addressing the rising cost of living, pension reform and police conduct during demonstrations as well as demanding the resignation of President Sebastian Pinera.
