Hong Kong: Police use tear gas against anti-police rally

Hong Kong, Special Administrative Region of China, Hong Kong
October 27, 2019 at 19:41 GMT +00:00 · Published

Police used tear gas to disperse anti-government protesters rallying against allegations of police brutality in Hong Kong's Salisbury Garden area in Tsim Sha Tsui on Sunday.

Footage shows police firing rubber bullets and tear gas canisters at demonstrators as well as hundreds gathered at the rally, which was organised under the slogan 'fight against police brutality, stand with Muslims, citizens and journalists.'

Police forces have drawn criticism from the Muslim community and anti-government protesters in Hong Kong after a water cannon truck fired blue-dyed water at a group of protesters near a mosque in Kowloon district, hitting the entrance and steps.

Hong Kong has been rocked by protests sparked by a now-withdrawn extradition bill since March. The rallies later evolved into a wider movement against the government, marked by months of clashes between protesters and the authorities.
