Japan: England's Eddie Jones 'massively disappointed' after Rugby World Cup defeat

Japan, Yokohama
November 02, 2019 at 23:20 GMT +00:00 · Published

England head coach Eddie Jones said he thought his team was well prepared for the Rugby World Cup final, but they failed to seize their opportunities to score at a post-game press conference on Saturday in Yokohama's International Stadium.

"We thought our preparation this week was good, but in the end of the day it wasn't because we didn't play well. And you can have the most investigative debrief of your game and you still don't know what was wrong. It just happens sometimes. It's not a good day for it to happen. You know, we're going to be kicking stones now for four years and it's hard to kick stones for four years. So we're massively disappointed," Jones stated, adding "it's not because of lack of effort mate."

South Africa's Springboks defeated England 32-12 in a physically draining encounter, reminding fans of the 2007 final where England was also overpowered by the Boks.

Their triumph continues a habit of winning the competition every 12 years after victories for the Boks back in 1995 and 2007.

The victory had special significance for the rainbow nation, with their first-ever black captain Siya Kolisi having the honour to lift the Webb Ells trophy.

South Africa now shares the record for most World Cup wins alongside New Zealand.
