Germany: Lufthansa workers hold protest march amid 48-hour cabin crew strike

Germany, Frankfurt
November 08, 2019 at 15:20 GMT +00:00 · Published

Hundreds of Lufthansa cabin crew members marched outside the Frankfurt airport grounds on Friday, as part of a 48-hour strike over wages, pensions and working conditions.

Hundreds of Lufthansa cabin crew members were seen chanting, blowing whistles and carrying banners outside the airport.

Lufthansa expected around 180,000 passengers in total to be affected with a total of 1,300 flights to be cancelled on Thursday and Friday.

Daniel Flohr, Vice-chairman for the Independent Flight Attendant Organisation (UFO), deplored what he described as the lack of communication from Lufthansa, saying "we don't want to conduct negotiations forever and ever."

He continued: "we want concrete and fast solutions... not waiting for a possible signature of someone from the management, who will probably accept, we don't want this."

The strike, initiated by UFO, kicked off on Thursday and aims at obtaining better pay and pensions for Germany's largest airline cabin crew. Lufthansa has been disputing the legitimacy of UFO and is yet to recognise either the union or its demands.
