Austria: Iran 'will never compromise its security concerns' - Iranian ambassador to the IAEA

Iranian ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Kazem Gharib Abadi commented on an incident involving an IAEA inspector who was denied entry to a nuclear facility in Iran, saying she was suspected of being in possession of hazardous materials. He made the comments in Vienna on Thursday.

Abadi emphasised that "due to sabotage attempts at our nuclear sites and regarding national security and the safety of nuclear installations, we will never compromise its security concerns under any circumstances."

On Wednesday, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) announced that an IAEA inspector was denied entry to the Natanz uranium enrichment plant after security alarms went off at the entry of the nuclear facility, indicating that she might have hazardous materials on her person. The IAEA has reportedly disputed this account.

The IAEA is supervising an operation, which started a day earlier with the transfer of a cylinder containing some 2,000 kilogrammes (4,409 pounds) of metal-organic framework-based (MOF) uranium hexafluoride from the Natanz site to the Fordow nuclear facility.

Iran has been reducing its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal since the US withdrew from the accord last year. Washington has since imposed sanctions on Tehran.
