The International Court of Justice (ICJ) delivered its judgement in The Hague on Friday over the objections of Russia to allegations brought by Ukraine over events that occurred in east Ukraine and Crimea from the spring of 2014.

In January 2017, Ukraine filed a lawsuit at the International Court of Justice accusing the Russian Federation of violating the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.

In September, Russia submitted its objections against the case in a bid to challenge the jurisdiction of the ICJ over the lawsuit.

The preliminary objections raised by the Russian Federation were rejected by the court. "The court concludes that the objection raised by the Russian Federation to its jurisdiction ratione materiae under the ICSFT cannot be upheld," said President of the International Court of Justice Abdulqawi Yusuf in his ruling.
