Hong Kong: Government will not 'yield to pressure' - Carrie Lam

Hong Kong, Special Administrative Region of China, Hong Kong
November 11, 2019 at 15:07 GMT +00:00 · Published

Hong Kong's Chief Executive Carrie Lam said that the government will not "yield to pressure" as she addressed the press in Hong Kong on Monday, following the latest round of violent demonstration.

Lam spoke of Monday's "casualties," referring to two incidents in particular, involving a protester being shot by the police and a man who was set on fire by another individual. Lam called these incidents "a blatant breach of peace and the rule of law, and is a totally inhumane act that nobody should condone."

She warned Hong Kong citizens that "if there is still any wishful thinking that by escalating violence, the Hong Kong SAR [Special Administrative Region] government will yield to pressure, to satisfy the so-called political demands, I'm making the statement clear and loud here: that will not happen."

The two injured men are reported to be in critical condition at hospital.
