Supporters of Bolivia's former President Evo Morales gathered near Miraflores Palace in the Venezuelan capital city of Caracas, on Monday to protest against his resignation.

"Today we feel a very deep pain because of what they have done to our brother Evo Morales. We, the indigenous peoples and as indigenous as our brother Evo is, we defend him, we fight for him and we give what is possible so that democracy in Bolivia continues," Cruz Alguaca, one of the protesters said.

Footage shows demonstrators carrying the Wiphala, a flag representing native communities of the Andes and Bolivian flags, chanting slogans in support of Morales.

On Sunday, Bolivian President Evo Morales announced his resignation, following weeks of unrest in the wake of the disputed October 20 presidential election.

Morales said he had received threats from opposition leaders and was eventually forced by the country's military to step down.
